Does God prophesy only on 31st December? Nigerian Pastors At It Again!

In a bizarre chain of events on 31st December 2017 night, Nigerian pastors from various churches claimed they all had a revelation from God and they prophesied (actually predicted) events that are to happen in 2018. A little Google Search will reveal so many prophecies from many pastors all over the country, kindly search : “2018 Prophecies by Nigerian Pastors”

The prophecy ranges from doom to prosperity and everything in between. Some of them even said things that contradicts one another concerning the year 2018, a typical example is one pastor saying the Nigerian economy is going to be on a downward spin and another pastor claiming God revealed to him that the country is heading to economic prosperity, so what did “God” actually said? Truth is, God is not a God of Confusion (1 Cor 14:33)
The most shocking thing is that all of them decided to prophesy on 31st December 2017, as if God can’t prophesied about the future in any other day.

Before going any further with this post, lets answer this, what is a prophecy? A prophecy is a message inspired by God, a divine revelation. The Bible says that prophets “spoke from God as they were moved by holy spirit ” (2 Peter 1:20, 21) So a prophet is one who receives God’s message and transmits it to others .—Acts 3:18.

Most of the things said by these pastors are mere predictions and educated guesses and not a prophecy from God. Do not let yourself be deceived by these so call men of of God. Read here what the Bible warns us all about:

Jeremiah 29:8-9 New International Version (NIV)
Yes, this is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: “Do not let the prophets and diviners among you deceive you. Do not listen to the dreams you encourage them to have. They are prophesying lies to you in my name. I have not sent them,” declares the LORD.

Let’s consider  series of Prophecies  (Predictions) uttered by one of the Pastors called Apostle Suleiman Of the Omega Fire Ministry Worldwide:

He has released 50 prophecies concerning the new year. They are:

50. I see a group rising in the North and asking for their own nation.

A careful look at this list, you can decipher that these are mere predictions or educated guesses.  These are not prophesies. Economy of Nigeria is highly unpredictable, but with a budget surplus for 2018,  return to importation of consumables, and Dangote’s Refinery almost ready to reduce the  dependency on petroleum importation. With all things being equal , it is save to say things might improved.

Boko Haram is not defeated so they can likely returned stronger.

For Imo State Governor to make governorship a family affair is already established since October 2017. He has already anointed his son-in-law.

Donald Trump has been drinking 2 liters of diet coke everyday for the past 3 months, so his health issue is not a ‘prophecy’.

Political Killing is almost normal in Nigeria, so that is not a prophesy.

Wild fire in America is like flood in Lekki and Ijegun every year.

Governor of Ekiti is always in opposition to the central Government.

Apart from Yaradua and partly Jonathan, no Nigerian government and even Governors obey court orders, so it’s not a prophecy.

Claiming  a former Military president to be laid to rest, Banbangida and Co have been having torrid times on the sick bed, every passing seconds reduce his(IBB) strength, and even if he dies, this one is not a prophecy.

Mugabe is ‘walking’ towards 100, and hospitals have almost become his second home, virtually every organs in his body have worn out because of old age, so it expected, if he dies pastors shouldn’t claiming “i told you so”.

It is a known  fact that in Nigeria, and any year that precede elections is always flooded with political killings, hate speeches, chaos, arrests for defamation of characters etc, so how can someone say God said there will be political killings and arrest of bloggers?

From prediction 39-50 barring 44 are already happening. I don’t even understand the one about KIM K. if you do, kindly comment in the comment section.

You may wonder if these are not prophesies how then did prophets of old received information from God?

God used several methods to transmit his thoughts to his prophets:

  • Writing. God used this method in at least one case by directly supplying to Moses the Ten Commandments in written form.Exodus 31:18.

  • Oral communication through angels. For example, God used an angel to instruct Moses about the message he was to deliver to Pharaoh of Egypt. (Exodus 3:2-4, 10) When precise wording was crucial, God directed angels to dictate his message, as he did when he told Moses: “Write down these words, because in accordance with these words, I am making a covenant with you and with Israel.”Exodus 34:27.

  • Visions. These were sometimes given while the prophet was awake and fully conscious. (Isaiah 1:1; Habakkuk 1:1) Some were so vivid that the recipient participated in them. (Luke 9:28-36; Revelation 1:10-17) At other times, visions were conveyed while the recipient was in a trance. (Acts 10:10, 11;22:17-21) God also transmitted his message by dreams while the prophet slept.Daniel 7:1; Acts 16:9, 10.

  • Mental guidance. God guided the thoughts of his prophets to convey his message. This is the sense of the Bible’s statement: “All Scripture is inspired of God .” The phrase “inspired of God” can also be rendered “ God – breathed .” (2 Timothy 3:16The Emphasised Bible) God used his holy spirit, or active force, to “breathe” his ideas into the minds of his servants. The message was God’s, but the prophet selected the wording. 2 Samuel 23:1, 2.

In today’s world these men are just predicting. The Bible clearly  stated that prophecy had it time and purpose and that it will end.  God disciples were not going to be prophesying till the time of the end.

1 Corinthians 13:8 New International Version (NIV)

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

The same Apostles Suleiman mentioned above has a history in failed predictions (not prophesies), here are some:

1. El-Rufai should go and sit down. For abusing Jesus, he will not win Kaduna election
Nasir El-Rufai won the election in Kaduna with 1,117,635 million votes beating the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party and the then governor, Mukhtar Yero, who polled a total of 485,833 votes.
The second President of Nigeria’s Second Republic (1979–1983) is alive and well.
3. Dangote will not have it smooth this year; he will drop from Africa’s richest
Dangote’s fortune in 2015 dropped to $14.7 billion from $25 billion in 2014. He was propelled downward by a weaker Nigerian currency and shrinking demand for cement which is his largest asset. He still retained the title of Africa’s richest man in 2015 and is still the richest African. However, the prophecy is partially true, as Dangote is close to dropping out of TOP-100 richest by Forbes. See the ranking HERE.
4. Rochas Okorocha; I saw him moving to PDP
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo did not move to PDP. Instead, he won the governorship election on the platform of the APC.
5. Let’s pray against military intervention and interim government
The military did not take over power in 2015 and in 2016, and there was no “interim government”. 6. President election inconclusive, yet Jonathan declared the winner. APC Pray!
Jonathan lost the 2015 presidential election to Muhammadu Buhari and in a historic move, called Buhari to congratulate him even before the Independent National Electoral Commission officially declared Buhari as the winner of the election.
7. I don’t see Buhari with credentials to vie for president
Whatever that meant, the INEC gave Buhari the pass to contest for president and he won to become the first to defeat an incumbent president in Nigeria’s history.
8. 2015 election is another June 12. The man who truly won will not govern or rule
According to the INEC, Buhari won the presidential election in 2015 and has occupied the seat since.
9. Arik Airline to pray against disaster
Arik Airline did not record any air mishap in 2015 and in 2016. The Assets Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) announced on Friday, February 9, 2017, that it was taking over Arik Airline, but it’s definitely cannot be tagged as a ‘disaster’, but rather as a temporary managerial measure.
11. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu needs serious prayer against mourning and death
The billionaire is still alive.
12. I saw Niger Delta militants become so powerful and influential in government
Niger Delta militants did not influence government in 2015 and in 2016. They bombed some piplines and oil and gas facilities, but terror does not equal power and influence.
13. Britain needs prayers because of her Queen
Queen Elizabeth is still alive and in 2015 became the longest serving British monarch by being on the throne for more than 63 years.
14. I see President Goodluck Jonathan coming back but troubles
By coming back, he meant coming back to retain his position as the president. However, this did not happen and will not happen.
15. Libyan election to be cancelled
There was no election in Libya in 2015.
16. There will be a plan to kill Goodluck Jonathan but it will be exposed
No plot to assassinate ex-president Jonathan was exposed in 2015.
17. Buhari’s health needs attention
Whatever this means, Buhari is still alive, though his London vacation was a bit too long.
18. I saw people who resigned as ministers to contest election return back as federal ministers
None of Buhari’s ministers served as ministers during Jonathan’s administration. The only minister who quit is Amina Mohammed. From March 7, 2017, she resumes her duties as the deputy secretary-general of the United Nations.
19. 2015 presidential election will be rigged, marred in violence and end up in court case.
According to foreign and local observes, 2015 presidential election was adjudged the fairest in the country’s history. Contrary to the prophecy, it did not end in a court case.

This post has become longer than I anticipated, let me wrap it up here, the fact remains these pastors are all liars, don’t be deceived by them, the reason to avoid them is written in the Bible verse below:

2 Corinthians 11:13 ESV

For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ.

Don’t forget

1 Corinthians 13:8 New International Version (NIV)

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
