Yes it grows…
This is a wonderful concept born in 2007 after a visit to Kenya by the concept developer Kenton Lee. Here is the inspirational story…
One day while out walking with the kids, Kenton Lee noticed that the little girl in a white dress next to him had shoes that were way too small for her feet.
That led to an idea:
“What if there was a shoe that could adjust and expand, so that the kids always had a pair of shoes that fit?
After returning home to the United States, Kenton pitched his concept of a “shoe that grows” to several different shoe companies.
Even though none of them were interested, Kenton still continued to believe in his vision. His next step was to assemble a small team, and together they began to build many different prototypes.
Finally, after 5 years of hard work and experimentation, his idea had became reality.
The Shoe That Grows was born!
The Shoe That Grows is proud to say that their first run of 3,000 shoes sold out. Their shoes have been distributed in Kenya, Ghana, Rwanda, Uganda, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Peru, Columbia, Vietnam, and Laos.
If you are interested in supporting the project, please head here.
This is a story of having a dream and sticking with it. Inspiration can come from anyway as we can see from Kenton’s story. The world surely need more of people like him, his inspiration and willingness to make his dream work, is something we should all learn from.
The Shoe That Grows is a project for all of us, for everyone one that wants to help the less privileged. So far the project is growing and many well meaning people will key in and support it to grow as a project.
